Happy Thanksgiving all!

thanksgiving-header-2007Happy Thanksgiving all!

Longstreet, and the lovely and gracious Mrs. Longstreet, are off to be with family today and enjoy the annual Thanksgiving Feast with the Grands!

Please remember your blessings today and take the time to offer thanks to God, the source of all those blessings.

***************************************

We Gather Together

We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;
He chastens and hastens his will to make known;
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing,
Sing praises to his name: He forgets not his own.

Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining his kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, wast at our side, All glory be thine!

We all do extol thee, thou leader triumphant,
And pray that thou still our defender wilt be.
Let thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!
Amen

–Traditional Thanksgiving Hymn
(A translation by Theodore Baker: 1851-1934)

We leave you with this note from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

–Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

We’ll be back in the trenches tomorrow!

Happy Thanksgiving all!

We Need Heroes!

We Need Heroes!

By J. D. Longstreet

**********************

In my youth heroes did abound. There were, first and foremost, the military heroes, then the sports heroes, even the guy down the block who saved the neighbor’s cat by climbing the tree to retrieve the cat, he, too, was a hero. But it is not so, anymore.

Humans need heroes. Heroes remind us that there is a better side to us. Heroes remind us that we DO have it in us to be better than we are… to accomplish what was thought to be the impossible, and that we do have it in us to defend those things most precious to us, like our families and our homes and even our country. But today you would think there are no heroes.

There are the quiet heroes who live among us, even in our very homes, every day. The parents striving to make a living and see that their kids get what they need to create, for themselves, a better life than that of their parents. Rarely are they ever mentioned among the phalanx of everyday heroes.

Military heroes went out of style during the Vietnam War. Although many, many, Vietnam veterans came home as a heroes, they were not accorded that status by their fellow Americans. Many were reviled and even spat upon. Men who had answered their country’s call and gone to war, and had every right to be accorded the status of heroes were, instead, shunned by American society.

When I was a boy, there actually were sports heroes. Oh yes. Joe De Maggio, Ted Williams, and the list goes on and on. No any longer. Professional athletes tell us they have no desire to be a ROLE MODEL, A HERO, if you will. And they aren’t. Many we would silently think of as heroes turn out to be abusing drugs, which brings into questions their athletic triumphs. So, we no longer have sports heroes.

Well, you may ask, what about the neighborhood guy who climbs trees and rescues felines for the neighbors children? What about him, huh? Well, that cat is stranded now, for good and all, except in the rare case where the local fire department will agree to come rescue the critter. Why? Well the neighborhood guy is concerned that if he should climb that tree and break a limb, some enviro- nut group will sue him. If he should accidentally harm the kitty, while in the attempt to rescue her, then the animal welfare groups might sue him, and if the kitty scratches the kids he returns it to, he might well be sued for allowing those children to play with a dangerous animal.

See the direction America has taken… and why, there are no heroes today? It is, indeed, far too risky to be a hero today.

And then there is the “Moral Relativity” problem. Here in America, the Moral Relativity adherents rule the day. Now known as “political correctness”, we are indoctrinated, from day one, that all men are created equal. Well, one can easily put the lie to that… if one wanders into the shower room of any military barracks in the world, or walk down a crowded beach in July. All men are NOT created equal. All men are guaranteed an equal shot at life, and it’s abundance, here in America by the constitution, but that is as far as it goes… or at least, that is as far as it SHOULD go.

Now, if you believe that all men are equal then you cannot have heroes. Because the very nature of heroism means that one person has exceeded the level playing field of equality and has become better than his fellow man in some way.

We used to understand that, in this country, and we celebrated our heroes. Look back at Audey Murphy, the most decorated soldier of the Second World War. A tiny little fellow, unimposing, but the man had the heart of a lion. He was a true hero.

And there was The Duke. Yep, John Wayne. So far as I know Duke never served his country in uniform. Except that, actually, he did. He portrayed such heroes, so often, and so convincingly on the American movie screen, that he became one. He played role after role of a hero in different uniforms of our military service. Those western characters he portrayed paid homage to the early days of America on the frontier. He became a hero. The thing with Wayne was that “what you saw was what you got”. Off screen, he was the same man he played on screen. And that came through, clear as a bell, in the characters he portrayed.

Say what you will about the Duke, but he taught, at least one generation of American men, what it meant to be a man… and even more importantly what it meant to be an American man.

Heroes provide us with role models. “We don’t need role models”, you may argue. Oh, but we do, I would argue back. Role models teach our children important lessons about who they are and of what they are capable.

When I first reported for military training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, back on July 5th, 1959, I had no idea what I was capable of. None. I thought I did. But, boy, how wrong I was.

I weighed approximately 126 pounds. And that was soaking wet! And then they took us up to a place known then as “Tank Hill”. That’s where you went, in those days, when you reported to Ft. Jackson to be whipped into shape as an American soldier. Eight weeks later, having survived pure hell, I left that Army post a brand new American soldier, believing I could lick the world, if necessary, single handed.

How did it happen? One important factor of that training was that there were genuine heroes training us. The Instructor cadres were men who were veterans of the Second World War and the Korean War. Men who had seen the worst the enemy could throw at them and they rose above it… and won!

We had a First Sergeant, with an Irish name, and all the accoutrements, including the blue eyes and red hair. Never saw him that he didn’t have a bayonet scabbard hanging from his web belt. Never. He was a sergeant in the manner of old first sergeants. That guy was something to behold. When he walked into a room, or onto a training field, all the noise became muted and all eyes were on him. He commanded respect. For those of us un-initiated, at the time, there was one huge question we all wanted ask and that was… “Why”? After a few weeks, I screwed up enough courage to ask one of the lowly buck sergeants what it was about the Top Kick that brought all that respect.

The sergeant pointed to the Top Kick’s bayonet. “You see that”, he asked? I assured him I couldn’t miss it. The sergeant went on to say there was a story behind that bayonet. He told me that even though he didn’t know all the details he knew that the Top Kick had saved his squad, in Korea, by charging an enemy machine gun nest with nothing but that bayonet in his hand. He over ran that enemy gun emplacement and put the machine gun out of action and saved the lives of his men. For his actions the Army had award him a medal. His fellow soldiers had awarded him something far more precious… their respect.

As I listened in awe, I came to understand the awe, in which his men held him, that day. And… I had something of an epiphany, and that was… that… even heroes need heroes. The men training me were genuine war heroes, and yet… they looked up to the Top Kick as THEIR hero.

It is the nature of the human beast. We need “markers” to show us what we can achieve. Those who rise above the rest ARE those “markers” and we call them heroes.

America has become a nation in limbo. Having no markers, no heroes, to look to we are wandering about in a sea of disillusionment, not knowing who we are. Oft times we are discouraged from accomplishments, which exceed the norm. We are told it is better to remain a non-entity than to accomplish more than one’s neighbors, and rise above them, for in so doing we make those who seek to remain equal feel ashamed, or less important that we.

To that I say… “Tough!” It is that kind of thought that is killing the American spirit. It is that kind of thought that is killing America… period! It is that kind of thought that is ushering in socialism in America with Mr. Obama at the point of the socialist spear.

America used to be a “can do” nation. Now we are a “can you do it for me?” nation. We have not yet recognized that those who willingly “do it” for us will soon reign over us. Why, the naysayers have us believing we can actually lose the war in Iraq! They have us believing we can’t fight two wars, on two fronts, and win! We’ve already put the lie to that argument. We fought the Germans, the Italians, and the Japanese, all at the same time, and came away victorious over all of them. And we fought, not just in two relatively small countries in the same region, but all over the GLOBE!

Regardless of what you may think, or you may have been taught, there are persons among us who are heroes. These are persons who have risen above and simply not been recognized by a society that has chosen to hide itself in the mire of equal aspirations based upon our society’s lowest common denominator.

We desperately need a hero to lead this nation through the dark decades ahead. We are facing an enemy, which wants us dead and will stop at nothing to wipe us out. We need a leader who is not afraid of taking the tough stands, and making the hard decisions, which may lead to the deaths of countless numbers of our enemies, but, in the end, save the USA.

But can a man, such as that, be elected in America anymore? Probably not. Can a man, such as that, be found among us? Oh yes! But I must warn you… they are few and far between. You see… some say America stopped producing “real men” in the 1960’s. And those of the male persuasion, who survived the ‘60’s, are now teaching our male children what THEIR definition of a real man is and, dear reader, it is far from what nature created the human male to be.

So what are America’s options? Frankly, I don’t see any. We, as a nation, are destined to ride this train to the end of the line. You see, when a people, voluntarily, choose to emasculate themselves, they must pay the price. America has only begun to pay that price.

Religious Conservatives Should Leave The GOP!

Religious Conservatives Should Leave the GOP!

By J. D. Longstreet

If I have said it once, I have said it a dozen times!  The Republican Party no longer wants conservatives, especially RELIGIOUS CONSERVATIVES!  As if one needed proof, here comes an article by Kathleen Parker to end the discussion. The article is titled: “ Heresy and Other Truths.”  In her article, Ms. Parker says:

“As Republicans sort out the reasons for their defeat, they likely will overlook or dismiss the gorilla in the pulpit.

Three little letters, great big problem: G-O-D.

I’m bathing in holy water as I type.

To be more specific, the evangelical, right-wing, oogedy-boogedy branch of the GOP is what ails the erstwhile conservative party and will continue to afflict and marginalize its constituents if reckoning doesn’t soon cometh.

You can read the entire article at:

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_11024437

This underscores the on-going battle within the Republican Party these days.  Religious conservatives are flat-out at odds with the moderates and liberals in the party and they (The moderates and liberals) want us (The conservatives, including the religious conservatives) gone.  In fact, they seem to want GOD gone from the party.

I am indebted to Ms. Parker for “backing up” what I have been saying for many years now.  Conservatives need to get out of the GOP and found their own political party and be done with it. When I refer to CONSERVATIVES, I, of course, mean the religious conservatives because there are very few, if any, non-religious conservatives.  You must understand that, in my opinion, the term “religious conservatives” means ALL conservatives.

There has been worry in recent years that the union of social and religious conservatives and the Republican Party is beginning to fray.  I beg to differ.  As far as I am concerned, it isn’t fraying. It is threadbare!  It’s OVER!  It’s long since time for conservatives, social, AND religious, to move on.

Look, as a social, and religious, and fiscal, and political, and every other kind of conservative, I can tell you, with no hesitation, conservatives need their own party.  We are not wanted any longer, if we ever were, in the GOP.  It is getting embarrassing for me as a staunch conservative to maintain my allegiance to a party that so obviously wishes I would LEAVE!

Turning the tables on the GOP would taste very good at this point.  They know they have a snowball’s chance of winning another election without conservative support.  If we leave the party they will be forced to come to us and beg for our support in any future elections.  That’s fine by me!

Yes, founding a third party is going to be tough.  Yes, we may never have a Conservative Party candidate on a national ticket.  But, conservatives would be able to swing elections and you had better believe our support would be sought. That alone would give us more input into future elections than we have now.  Much more.

I am a conservative first and a republican second.  I am a republican because there was no conservative party, as such, to turn to. Given a choice, I would have joined the Conservative Party and never been a Republican in the first place. There are hosts of southern voters who feel the same way. I suspect there is another host of voters across the other regions of the country that feel the same way.

In two years we have another extremely important election coming up. If conservatives want to see any gains for conservatism in the Congress we had better get ourselves organized and ready. We cannot do that by staying in the Republican Party.

How America Has Changed … by Alan Caruba

How America Has Changed

By Alan Caruba

Many of those who helped elect Barack Obama as the next President represent a very different generation of Americans from earlier ones. They have passed through the politically correct indoctrination of government/union controlled schools and have little accurate knowledge of history, geography, or civics with which to make informed judgments. They are more the product of popular media and culture than any previous generation.

The struggle for civil rights dominated the 1960s. The Watergate scandal marked the 1970s and the nation experienced its first serious military defeat after a protracted war in Vietnam. The rise of the Islamic Revolution began in 1979 and continued through the 1980s and 1990s, until it led to the 9/11 attack in 2001. The nation has been engaged militarily in the Middle East ever since. Events alter perceptions.

Here are some of the ways that America has changed since the 1960s:

The nuclear family—mother, father and children—is no longer the most common household type. It was in 1960, but today the nuclear family ranks third among alternative types of households behind married couples without children at home (mostly older, empty-nesters) and people living alone (also among the growing demographic of older Americans.) Divorce and out-of-wedlock births have caused the number of single parents to increase dramatically. Abortion ends 24% of pregnancies these days.

Most children have working mothers. In America today, 69% of married mothers work. The result is that most pre-school children are in daycare programs being raised and cared for by people other than their parents.

Only 16% of Americans think that our nation’s schools are doing a good job. To put it another way, 84% think schools are failing in their mission to educate today’s children. There are ample statistics to demonstrate this. For example, only 39% of white students in fourth grade were reading at or above their grade level in 2005. Among black students, it was only 12%. Asian American students, however, scored at 40%. Educators tell me that today’s schools are virtual zoos requiring all manner of monitoring of disruptive students. Fear rules the halls of too many schools, both inner city and suburban.

The median household income peaked in 1999 after some forty years of rising incomes. Between 1967 and 2006 the median household income grow by 32%, after adjusting for inflation, to $48,201. The average American household makes $1,000 less than it did a few years ago. The earning power of men peaked in 1989. Between 1967 and 2006, the median earnings of women who worked full-time grew by 53%. Together, those incomes allowed families to buy houses, SUVs, and other top dollar items. Americans have been on a credit spree, however. The median debt of average American households is $55,300!

The Social Security Trust Fund will exhaust its surplus in 2041. Nine out of ten people aged 65 years or older receive a Social Security check each month. It accounts for 40% of their income.

In a recent issue of Budget & Tax News, published by The Heartland Institute, an article noted that “Federal regulations cost Americans almost as much as the income tax and more than 40 percent of all federal spending…Federal environmental, safety, health, and economic regulations cost more than $1 trillion a year in addition to the costs of official federal spending.” These costs are passed along to consumers.

Fully 63% of Americans believe in God and have no doubts about it, but 57% believe that it is not necessary to believe in God to be a moral person with good values.

According to the 2000 Census, America was home to 63 distinct racial groups, but it was the first census in which individuals could identify themselves as belonging to more than one such group, i.e., were multiracial. Whites constituted 211 million people. Blacks were 14% of the population and represented 25% of those living in poverty, but non-Hispanic whites represented 44%. Blacks constitute 41 million Americans and are outnumbered five to one by whites.

Despite the failure of some sub-prime mortgages, fully 68% of households own a home. The Great Depression caused such losses that the government created the Federal Housing Administration and a new system of financing, the 30-year, fixed rate mortgage. By 1950 home ownership rate had climbed to 55%. Allowing people to buy homes with no money down and a reasonable expectation of paying their monthly mortgage has proven to be a very bad idea.

If you were born in 1901 life expectancy was 47 years. By 2006, average life expectancy was 78! The leading cause of death in America is heart disease. More than two million Americans die of this cause every year.

Antonio Gramsci, a dedicated communist, wrote a book setting out a strategy for taking over strong Western democracies by infiltrating their churches and educational system, as well as a nation’s media. Communism could be imposed by turning churches into ideologically-driven political clubs. Educational systems had to be dumbed down and offer a politically correct curriculum. Mass media had to discredit traditional institutions such as marriage and commonly shared moral values.

If any of this looks like America today, consider yourself warned.

Sarah Palin For President in 2012

Sarah Palin for President 2012.

There is a movement “aborning” to support Sarah Palin for President in 2012.

At first glance it would seem too early to consider supporting anyone this far out from the election in 2012.  But, since the Clintons introduced America to the “Never-Ending Campaign for President”, some feel conservatives had better go ahead, right now, and get the ball rolling.

There is already a website for the Sarah Palin for President campaign at:

http://voteforsarah2012.blogspot.com/

Go over and take a look.  Leave a comment, if you like, and if you have a blogsite of your own, you are invited to link to the Vote for Sarah site and alert others to its existence.

It is said that small increments of time (such as weeks or months) in politics, is a lifetime. That may be, and, certainly, much can, and does, happen in the world of politics… even in hours.

With the current election “seemingly” already decided in favor of Obama, and, taking into consideration the dastardly way conservatives have been treated by the GOP in this election cycle, more and more conservatives are looking for a future candidate they can get behind early and, in doing so, serve notice on the GOP that their support (conservative support) is going to THAT candidate… and if… IF… the GOP wishes to have any support from Conservative voters… then the GOP will have to follow the conservative lead, or… just get out of the way.

Now, as a conservative, myself, I am not deceiving myself by believing the GOP will actually wake-up and see the error(s) of their way(s).  See, I don’t think the GOP, in their minds, made an error!  I think the GOP set out, from the very beginning in this election, to discard the conservative wing of their party and push McCain through with the belief, the conviction, if you will, that they could win this election with the support of only liberal and moderate republicans, plus the independent voters. That move was doomed to failure right from the start.  But, the oh, so intelligent elite, in the Republican Party, wanted their party back, and now… they have it… for what it is worth.

For 46 years I have voted a conservative ballot.  My belief in conservative values has not changed one iota in all that time. I have seen the GOP win when they placed those conservative values first and foremost in their candidate and their campaigns.

But it is clear that since 1994 the elite in the GOP have been gnashing their teeth at the mention of “conservatives” in what they truly believe is THEIR party.  No matter that their liberal and moderate values had kept the republicans on the backbenches in both houses of the Congress for decades. Apparently, they liked it there… for they sure as heck seem to be bound and determined to return to those same backbenches ASAP.

Rejection is a difficult thing for the human animal to deal with.  Some are just overwhelmed by it.  Others become depressed and wallow in that depression, while others accept it for what it is, choose not to dwell upon it, and move on continuing to strive for bigger and better things.  I sincerely hope the bulk of conservatives will accept the GOP rejection of our values and move on to form our own political party, separate from the Republicans, into which we can pour our energies and our collective talents in an effort to build a better America.

Race as an Election Factor … by Alan Caruba

Race as an Election Factor

By Alan Caruba

I find it remarkable that so little attention has been paid to the role of race in the 2008 election, especially since, for the first time in the nation’s history, one of the parties has nominated a man who, though biracial, identifies himself as Afro-American or Black.

Throughout most of America’s elections, race was a factor, going all the way back to the way opponents of Thomas Jefferson spread rumors of a relationship between him and his slave, Sally Hemmings. Turned out the rumors were true, but Jefferson became our third president anyway.

Slavery, a racial issue, would eventually lead to a rupture among the states, much as the Founding Fathers had feared when they created the Constitution to replace the Articles of Confederacy. A Civil War would be fought to settle the matter. What followed was a century of suppression of blacks and a resistance, led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,  that would erupt in the 1960s.

A lot of people, following the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, concluded that, at last, America had put the issue of race and bias behind it. Not so. The vast majority of those in poverty today are descendents of those Black Americans who were granted a further layer of protection of their constitutional rights in the 1960s.

Add to them a whole new layer of society in the form of a huge influx of illegal aliens, primarily Mexicans and those of Hispanic descent, some of whom were granted citizenship via an amnesty in 1986. A second effort to provide amnesty to an estimated twelve million illegal aliens was defeated in 2006 due to a massive public outcry.

In a new book, “Segregation: The Rising Costs for America”, its authors argue that, “By the middle of this century, today’s minorities will constitute half of the U.S. population and that fast-growing population is disproportionately impoverished, ill-housed, poorly educated, and tenuously linked to labor markets.”

The book was published just as the financial system of the nation crashed, due almost entirely to laws that required mortgage loans, called sub-prime, be made to minorities in order that they be able to live in homes that it turns out they could not afford. Thus, a liberal program based on the view that the poor have a “right” to live beyond their means has created a crisis that has destroyed several banks and investment firms, and imperiled one of the nation’s largest insurance firms. Much of the value of stocks has been lost as well.

This is a financial crisis that is the direct result of a foolish notion that was entirely rooted in race. The problems associated with crime in America are largely rooted in race and the failure to stem the tide of illegal aliens. The nation’s jails are filled with minorities. The costs are measured in the billions.

It is one thing to open doors to opportunity. It is quite another to get people to walk through them. In the case of the illegal aliens, even the fences at the border could not keep them out and, once here, made them instant criminals breaking our laws.

One man has risen to challenge for the highest position in the land. He has been received by cheering throngs. And he is indisputably Black.

I think it would be a great mistake to think that Barack Obama’s racial identity would contribute to a reduction in any of the social problems afflicting America’s Black community. If anything, a Democrat controlled Congress is likely to repeat the same kinds of mistakes that produced the financial crisis.

Indeed, just as politicians used race in former times to influence the outcome of an election, Obama is the consummate politician and will do the same. If anything, Obama’s race, if he is elected, could lead to unrealistic expectations and possibly even social unrest.

Some may vote for him out of “white guilt” over offenses done to Blacks in a previous era, but no one living today ever owned a slave. Those whites who grew up in the segregated South, as often as not will tell you they were as trapped in its constrictions as Blacks. Most are glad to see the Jim Crow era gone.

But in countless ways segregation is not gone and it is practiced every day on a purely voluntary basis. Watch how students segregate themselves by race in a high school cafeteria. Watch how their parents segregate themselves by race when they attend church on Sunday.  Watch how the two races tend to congregate in largely separate sections of a community.

Segregation or human nature? Discrimination or the choice of people to live among those who share their race, their heritage, their values, their culture?  There’s a reason one can visit San Francisco’s or New York’s famed China Towns. Depending on where you live, tides of Russians, Indians, and of course Hispanics have created their own “towns.”

Remember, too, that even in Congress, there is a Black Caucus.

Race will surely be a factor in the 2008 election. It will be a factor long after.

Are the Dems Celebrating Too Soon?

Are the Dems Celebrating Too Soon?

Is Celebrating a Disaster Wrong?

By; J. D. Longstreet

************************************

I was thinking the other day as I read, listened to, and watched all the dismal poll data showing the republican candidate for president down and falling in the polls… where have I seen this before? Well, it didn’t take long to find out. It was the Reagan/Carter race back in the 1980 election. As unlikely as it may seem, looking back on it from this vantage point, that race was a cliffhanger until less than 72 hours before the vote. And then the dam burst for Reagan.

John Zogby, of the Zogby Poll says, in an article in the Boston Herald that he doesn’t think Obama has “closed the deal” with voters yet. You can read the article at:

http://news.bostonherald.com/news/2008/view.bg?articleid=1124117&srvc=2008campaign&position=8

Conservatives fault McCain for not having closed the deal himself. Many of us feel that McCain could have, and should have, run a much more aggressive campaign than he has so far. The Obama campaign has handed the McCain camp campaign issues McCain could have easily used against Obama and yet, he hasn’t used them. That failure to attack has created a load of consternation among conservatives. Some leading lights in the conservative camp are saying that conservatives will have to drag McCain over the line to victory on Election Day if he is to win. Understand… McCain still doesn’t have the conservative republicans in his pocket. They are in Palin’s pocket… not McCain’s.

Along about this time in 2000, if memory serves, the pollsters had Gore approximately 11 points ahead in the polls. In 2004, right wing radio talkers were saying the race was Kerry’s to lose… and yet, Bush won both. Go figure.

There is a different feel to this election campaign than others I have experienced. And I have experienced a LOT of presidential elections. I blame much of that on my own disappointment in the American electorate. One likes to think his fellow Americans are smarter than they, in fact, are. I am disappointed at how easily the electorate is herded toward a candidate who, no matter how you consider his credentials is absolutely not qualified to be president of a country, certainly not this country. And yet, uneducated as they are about the issues of the day, they bite the bait, and drink the kool-aid, and fall in step behind a candidate who is leading them to… who knows what? They certainly do not know!

At the risk of sounding like a pamphleteer in the pre-Revolutionary days in American… these are perilous times. To be absolutely honest with you, who in their right mind would want to be President considering what the next President will have facing him the moment he takes his hand off the Bible at the swearing in. (You DO know he is already sworn in before we actually see him take the oath…right? Oh, yeah, that is done quietly, out of sight of the public.) The nation is at war, and no matter what any candidate tells you, no matter what any political party tells you, that is not going to change anytime soon. We are not going to be able to disengage our troops from the Middle East no matter how much howling goes up from the left. It ain’t gonna happen. That fact alone means a world of hurt for Obama, with his constituency, should he win. The economy is shot to hell, and we are looking at decades of recovery time. Guess who will get the blame for that slow recovery… no matter who the left tries to pin that on. If McCain wins all this blame is going to fall on him.

Now, at the risk of sounding like a prophet of doom… I don’t think the economic slide is nearly over yet. Rumors are floating around that other huge manufacturers will go belly-up next year if they don’t receive billions more of taxpayer money to bail them out. Here in my own neck of the woods a large employer, an international company based in the US, is closing the local plant and laying off 400 employees the first of December, just before Christmas. (A heck of a Christmas gift, what?) Having been through these economic slowdowns before, a number of times while managing a business myself, and trying to keep it afloat, experience tells me this is going to take time… and before it is over… a lot of Americans are going to be hurt. Care to venture a guess as to whom they are going to take that anger out on? You got it! The new President will be at the center of that bull’s eye.

Another thing, should Obama win, where, pray tell, is he going to get all that money necessary to implement all those new programs he is promising? See, the money is gone… and then some! Can you say… TAXES! Taxes on big business? Are you aware that currently the US has the highest corporate taxes of any nation on earth? Would you be surprised if big business began pulling out of the US and taking their operations over to, oh, say, China, where, in some circumstances, they are offering NO corporate taxes for companies that relocate to China.

These are all important issues voters absolutely must consider before casting that ballot in November. If you are reading this it means that you are one of the Americans who cares about what is going on today and how a wrong decision at the polling place will impact your future and the future of your family, your neighbors, and your nation.

One thing is for certain. This is not the time in the history of this country to elect a novice to the office of President of the United States. The wolves are circling just waiting to learn how Americans vote. The wrong vote will bring them bounding in to devour the poor, unsuspecting, newly elected, quite likely overwhelmed, leader of a nation in dire straits.

Yes, we have the strongest, best equipped, and best-trained military in the world. But it is simply not nearly large enough to meet such a challenge. We are going to need, and I hate to say it, a military draft to at least double, preferably triple, the size of the standing military we have today. That will cost billions, even trillions, more money.

I do not doubt that America will pull out of this mess, but it is going to cost money and worse… it is going to cost American blood. But…we have no choice. These things weigh heavily on the minds of thinking Americans who understand the danger in which this country currently finds itself. I don’t worry about how they will cast their ballots. No, those who worry me are the unthinking, the unknowing voter, those ruled by emotion, those blinded by race, by perceived slights, real or unreal, slights they feel have been done them by their fellow Americans,  who will take this opportunity to cast a ballot in angry protest no matter the cost to themselves or their country. They do not seem to understand, or they simply do not care, that they will be the first segment of American society to be hurt, if not destroyed, by the pain and anguish brought by a wrong decision at the ballot box in November. That’s what worries me as the election draws ever nearer.

The Beauty of the Scriptures is Lost!   …   By: J. D. Longstreet

***************
My favorite translation of the Bible is the Revised Standard… and second, the American Standard..

As a youth, in grammar school, I read the bible from cover to cover. The King James edition, I might add. I was enthralled with the beauty of the near poetical rhythm of the scripture as it flowed.

I was brought up in a church, which stressed knowledge of the scriptures. And so… I learned them. That scripture has served me well over some 65 years of life and I’m sure it will serve me until my death.

Now, having said all that, I have to tell you the new translations leave me cold. There is no beauty, there is no poetry, there is no rhythm, and there certainly is nothing to draw a reader to the pages. (Now there is the new GREEN BIBLE.)

For thirty years I made my living with the spoken, and written, word. I know a little something about words and stringing them together to create a visual image in minds of the listener or reader.

As my wife prepared the bulletins to be used in her church services, for the various Christmas services, she asked me to proof read them. I did. But as I read the scripture, which was from one of the new translations, I found myself left cold. There was no passion there… there was no life to the words on that page. I found myself interjecting words and phrases from the old King James Version of the Christmas Story. I simply could not help myself. My brain shifted gears, and before I was conscious of it, I was spouting that beautiful passage of scripture, which was burned indelibly into my consciousness as a child. There it was! The Christmas story I knew. The Christmas Story with the warmth,. The passion, the beauty, the inspiration, and yes, even something which resembles a soul.

Today, we read the modern day accounts of the events which transpired on Jesus’ birthday over 2000 and six years ago and they are, well, like reading a 6th grade student’s book report. DULL. Lifeless. Boring!

Now, I don’t recommend the King James Version of the Bible for accuracy. I DO, however, recommend it to you for a classic work of art. The Revised Standard and the American Standard are probably the most accurate translations to be found today. The Revised Standard, which I believe is now out of print, maintained some of the beauty of the old King James Version and added the accuracy.

It seems to me that the churches, which use the new translations of the scriture for their services, should consider using the King James Version for the two High Holy Days of the Christian Calendar, Easter and Christmas.

I taught myself to read as a child reading first the newspaper, and then Popular Mechanics, and then Popular Science, and then I discovered the Bible. I was hooked on reading from then on. Even then, I could see the difference between the language of the newspapers and magazines of the day as compared to the language of the old King James Version of the Bible.

I must tell you what I believe has happened. I believe the publishers of bibles have “dumbed the bible down” to around, roughly, the comprehension level of a 5th or 6th grader. In so doing, in my opinion, they have done great damage to the Christian faith, and to the literacy of the Christian community.

Now, this is all my personal opinion, mind you. If you find understanding in the modern translations of the Bible, then good for you. But, for me, reading the back of a cereal box has about as much meaning.

Preparing for America with Socialist Leadership!

***********************
If you are a resident of America, and you happen to live in a home constructed in the 1950’s and 1960’s, we suggest you begin searching your back yards for what might appear as a ventilation shaft, protruding from the ground, for no apparent reason. If you find one of those, you’ll want to get out the old shovel and start digging. You may be fortunate enough to have one of the thousands of underground bomb shelters built in America during that era.We suggest you dig down to it, open it, air it out, clean it out, and begin re-stocking it as soon as possible.

If you are one of the unfortunate ones, like me, and you don’t have one of those soon to be needed life saving shelters, you are going to need to go to the search engine of your choice and begin a search for plans for a family, or personal, bomb shelter, or fallout shelter.

You think I’m kidding, right? Not by a long shot! Have you been watching the news lately?

I mean, the Mainstream Media is already telling us the Democrat Party is going to win back the Presidency in a month’s time, and if they do… you and I are going to need those bomb shelters! Putting the Democrats in charge of the US government is the equivalent of running up the white flag for the Islamofacists! They are just waiting for the Democrats to take over. They know that the Democrats have no earthly idea of what national security means and no hint as to what is required to protect the citizens of the United States, or, the Socialsist States of America, soon to be followed by the Islamic States of America!

Nearly 80% of foreign policy experts say they are convinced the US is going to be hit again within the next few years. Do you want to take the chance that the hit will be non-nuclear, or nuclear? Ok, then, start digging!

I’m sitting just 50 miles from a busy East Coast seaport, just 30 miles from the largest US Military Ammo Dump on the East Coast, just 35 miles from a Nuclear Power Plant, and you think I’m not worried??? Each morning as the eastern horizon brightens at sunrise, I do a double take just to be sure it IS the sun!

It’s time to get on the ‘net and find those bomb shelter plans, and check the yellow pages for the dealer nearest you with backhoe rentals, and get to work. There’s not a minute to lose. In a few months, after the Democrats win, a free America will be only a beautiful memory. That shining city on a hill will be darkened and will vanish. Man’s last, best, hope will be gone. The candle of freedom will be outed and the American Dark Ages will descend upon us under the much-anticipated Islamic Global Dominion. The only nation standing between freedom and utter chaos, will be gone… undone from within by a political party bent on power for itself and unwilling to admit it is completely incapable of leading, and protecting, the nation it claims to love.

Prepare, fellow Americans! The edge of night approaches.
